Carolina Legion Field Music

The 25th NC Infantry Regiment has its own Field Music. Chief Drummer Noah Raper and his father Principle Musician/ Bass Drummer Aubrey Raper, have been members of the 25th NC since Oct. of 1994. In order to be on the field with the troops Noah started drumming in the summer of 1995. In addition to Noah and Aubrey we also have Drummer Joseph Ensley. Noah and Aubrey are also the principle drummers of our sister regiment and Carolina Legion member the 26th NC Infantry Regiment. Combined these fine and talented musicians make up the Carolina Legion Field Music. As such, both units contribute members to the field music which ultimately benefits both units independently as well as the Carolina Legion itself when it does events as a Legion.

Carolina Legion Field Music
The music played comes from the original manuals of the time period. The instruments the musicians use are the rope-tensioned reproduction Drums with synthetic heads and snares made to resemble the original calf-skin and animal gut parts of the period. The Fifes are six-holed and made of Rosewood.

The Fifes and Drums were the workhorse of military music. The Field Music was responsible for playing calls for Reveille, Mess, Fatigue Duty, Assembly and Lights Out. They were also indispensable on the march, keeping the weary foot soldier "in step" and boosting morale with there music.
The 25th is always looking for Fifers and Drummers to add to the ranks. If you have musical ability and talent and feel you would make a positive contribution to the field music, by all means feel free to contact us and express your interest. You too could be in the field with one of the finest groups of field musicians in the reenacting hobby.
